Oxford University Energy and Power Group
The YASA™ motor technology was originally developed in the Energy and Power group at Oxford University. Projects, such as the LIFECar and Riversimple Urban Car were undertaken within an academic context. In September 2009, Oxford YASA™ Motors was created to commercialise the technology. Close links with the Energy and Power Group still exist, and a number of collaborative projects, such as the YAMOG project are currently being undertaken.
Delta Motor Sport
The 500Nm YASA™ motor has been developed with Delta Motor Sport specifically for their Ultra Low Energy Vehicle (ULEV). The vehicle is powered by four YASA™ motors and is a contender for the X-Prize.
YAMOG project:
The YAMOG project is Technology Strategy Board (TSB) funded project which aims to develop new direct drive Yokeless And Segmented Armature (YASA™) chassis and wheel motor packages that will be ready for volume production (10,000 units p.a.) in 2014, two years after the successful completion of the project.
The YAMOG project partners are:
Morgan Motor Company - responsible for providing a mule and road testing the motors
Oxford University - research responsibilities in the area of power electronics packaging and novel cooling techniques
Semikron - responsible for the power electronics solution
TRW Conekt - responsible for motor testing and validation
